My programmer is very inconsistent.
Today it refuses to work at all.
I keep getting the "avrdude: initialization failed, rc=-1" message.
But when I force it I can see that its doing something.
It reads the device id as 0x000000 to 0xffffff and everything in between.
Some others are 0x008000, 0x00f8e8, 0x0000ff and so on.
This is on a custom board which I'm trying to program and my Arduinos.
Everything isnt working at the moment although it has worked in the past.
Any ideas?
As a side note, I have some feature requests.
* Polyfuse or similar. Statistics assure me that the probability of plugging it in incorrectly is 50% but for some reason I always plug it in the wrong way around.
I'll remember to use notched headers so I can only put it in one way.
* Request extra current. Its not difficult to chew 100mA. Atmega32's seem to do it easily.
Its just a software patch and cant be too difficult but its very useful.
* Enable the watch dog. Occasionally there are issues and the power led goes out.
I assume enabling the watchdog timer would catch these problems and reset the device.

Any idea about the programming problem?
Its obviously doing something but I have no idea what.
Is it possible to detect a malfunctioning hub?
I'd add it myself but I've got the chicken and the egg problem.
I need another programmer.

I mean sockets with notches on my custom boards.ladyada wrote:1. the kit comes with notched headers
When you say they dont like it, do you mean they cease to function or what?ladyada wrote:2. you can easily upgrade the current, but many hubs dont like it so it was kept at 100mA
