Kit Jumper Wires Have Plastic Coating

Postby modeller » Wed Mar 06, 2013 8:13 am

I ran into some weird problems with some circuits I've been connecting. They wouldn't work when they obviously should have. To make a long story short, the jumper wires that came with the starter kit have ... believe it or not ... some kind of plastic coating covering the part that's supposed to conduct! Apparently sometimes it scrapes off when inserting it into the breadboard, and sometimes it doesn't. Good grief.

I attached a picture of some of them held under my magnifying glass light. You can see the plastic on the wires, and where I tried to scrape some of it off with my fingernail.

What's up with that Adafruit?

Hmmm. Haven't seen that before. I've got a couple bundles of those here and the pins are all clean.

Contact support@adafruit.com with a link to this thread for a replacement.

Thanks a lot. I found a couple that were open when I first got the kit; I wasn't going to quibble about that, but this is the strangest thing I've seen in a while!

One only wonders what was going on when they made them.

Thanks again.

Followup:

The support team sent an email within 5 minutes of me alerting them, that the replacement wires were shipped.

That's amazing service.

Good job!

Got the jumpers today - they are nicer than the ones in the kit. These have pointy tips. Thanks a lot.
