defective duemilanove?

Post by bramm »

Hello,
I've just received 2 arduino duemilanove budget packs (from Adafruit). I'm afraid one of the boards is broken.

If I plug it in the USB port, TX/RX flashes a bit and PWR lights. The led on pin 13 does not flash.
When I try to upload I get:
avrdude: stk500_getsync(): not in sync: resp=0x00
avrdude: stk500_disable(): protocol error, expect=0x14, resp=0x51
TX/RX does not blink. (I run WinXP, installed the drivers, selected the right com port)
When I press S1 (this is reset, right?) nothing happens.

The 2nd board works OK on the same computer. I succesfully uploaded the blink example.

So I've tried replacing the chip with a spare bootloaded atmega328, also to no avail. Still cannot upload, no flashing on pin 13. No flashing when I press RESET.

Thank you!
Bram (btw, I am completely new to electronics/arduino)
