My servo motor spindle does not move

Post by cedyathome »

I am trying the Single Servo tutorial. I can hear/feel the motor turn on/off, but the arm does not move AT all.
I have checked and double checked the wiring (which is quite simple in this example). I have tried an external power supply (instead of USB).

the servo is the TowerPro SG92R micro servo

Any suggestions?

When the servo is not plugged in, can you turn it by hand?

I just tried that and I could no turn it using my fingers, so I tied a needle-nose plier. It took some force, but I was able to turn it a bit.

Now it sort of works!! Thank you.

But I have another question. With a position of 180 (myservo.write (180)), the arm is not 180 degrees from where it was when 0. It sound like it is trying to get there, but it doesn't. The arm moves more like 160 degrees.

There is some variation in the operating range between servos, but it sounds like yours may be binding a bit. When you turn it by hand, can you rotate 180 degrees between stops?

I can move it with the pliers, but with difficulty.

There should be some resistance from the geartrain, but you shouldn't need pliers to turn it. If this is one you purchased from us, please contact [email protected] with a link to this thread for a replacement.
