USB / DC / Solar Lithium Ion/Polymer charger AA charging

by wgret on Mon May 28, 2012 11:24 am

Is there any way to charge 2 AA or AAA rechargeable batteries with this kit? If so is there a specific brand or type batteries I need. Thanks very much for the help.

This charger is designed for LiPo cells only, such as the ones in the store:

NiMH or NiCd rechargable AA's need a different charge cycle than LiPo.

If I wire in the minty USB charger with a Lithium Ion/Polymer battery (like you have in the pics) then can I use any AA USB charger for the batteries? That setup will supply enough PWR for the rechargeable's?
Sorry for the stupid questions but I'm new to DIY electronic kits.
Thanks for the super quick reply.

No. LiPo and NiMH and NiCd are all different battery chemistries and require different charge cycles. I have seen some chargers that are switchable between NiMH and NiCd, but not between NiMH or NiCd and LiPo.

With this setup

I can't plug in a USB AA charger such as this http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/5 ... AA300_.jpg to the minty boost to charge the batteries? I hope I did the images correct.

Yes. That should work as long as your USB AA charger does not need more than 500mA.

We carry Otter Boxes in various sizes: https://www.adafruit.com/index.php?main_page=adasearch&q=otter
As well as a couple different weatherproof project boxes: https://www.adafruit.com/index.php?main_page=adasearch&q=weatherproof
