I apologize in advance if this has been answered. I tried searching the forums, but upon entering 'motor shield led', I received a message saying all three of my words were too common and thus ignored. I also read through several pages of this sub-forum but never saw an answer.
While assembling the shield, using the directions found at http://www.ladyada.net/make/mshield/solder.html, I found that the board shown and the board I received where slightly different. Still very easy to assemble until I came to the LED. From what I can see, there is no labeled place for the LED to go.
Is it right in front of my eyes and I'm just getting old? Does anyone know where to place the LED?
Thanks.

In your photo, the LED goes to the left of R1. Be sure to observe the polarity so that the flatted side goes to ground. If there is no flat then I believe the longer lead is the anode.

Re: Noob Question about assembling the motor shield
To confirm, it goes in the space labeled PWR? I noted that the symbol around this space is the same as the space labeled LED in the tutorial, but that board had a separate space labeled PWR. This one had the same symbol, but was labeled PWR.
Thanks a lot. I appreciate the help!

Re: Noob Question about assembling the motor shield
It goes immediately to the left of R1 with the long lead through the hole with the + symbol just to it's upper-right. The hole pair will have a series of concentric rings around them. This is the board symbol for an LED.
The PWR label with the rectangular symbol around it is the two pin header.

Re: Noob Question about assembling the motor shield
The PWR label near the LED means that when illuminated, the board has power. The concentric rings around the holes are the clue.
