How to connect FTDI Friend to UNO

Post by oldogtrik »

I am just about to start testing my WeatherProof camera and have been going over the tutorial. When it comes to using the Comm Tool Utility it says that a Serial connection is needed and to use a FTDI Friend or other TTL/Serial converter.
I went to the FTDI Friend page and do not see how you connect to an Arduino UNO, or for that any Arduino. How is this done?
Also they are out of stock right now, what are other options for a TTL/Serial converter?

If you have an Arduino you can 'hijack' the serial chip (FTDI chip or similar) by uploading a blank sketch to the Arduino
from the top of the page on the com tool (right below the line about the FTDI friend) There also is a picture. Have fun with the camera.

OK, Thank you, I will try that.
I hope the day when all this stuff "just clicks in my head" comes soon.
