CC3000 adapter connected with a 3.3V Host

Post by pra »

What is the correct way of using the CC3000 with 3.3V input/output signals ( ala MBed)? Connect VIN to 3.3V.? Will the adapter LDO and Level shifter still work with a 3.3V VIN? Will the level shifter properly handle 3.3V Input/Outputs if VIN is 5.0V?

The HC4050 level shifter is powered from regulated 3.3V on the breakout board, so it should work just fine with 3.3V systems as well as 5V systems.

If you have 5V available, I would connect VIN to 5V. Leave 3.3V disconnected.

If you only have a sturdy 3.3V regulated supply already I would connect 3V3 to that, and leave the VIN disconnected.

Keep in mind the CC3000 needs up to 300mA during TX.
