"Brass Liquid Solenoid Valve - 12V - 1/2 NPT - ID: 996"
http://www.adafruit.com/products/996
The description, title and technical details suggest this has NPT threads, however they are very clearly G1/2" or aka BSPP. Having only 1/2" of thread surface, any NPT or NPS fitting will bottom out before getting tight. This is intended to work with shallow fittings with crush washers.
A quick search of the web produces sources for this valve straight from the manufacturer where the threads are described as such.
You should correct the description. You could source adapters for your US-based customers.
At any rate, I'm an unhappy customer for having spent several hours doing the research you should have already done and for the delay and added cost for my project.

Re: Incorrect thread description: Brass Liquid Solenoid Valv
The brass solenoid mates with 1/2" nominal straight-thread fittings (we got some from the hardware store to check the threads) BSPP is an incompatible-thread, and we're pretty sure that if it mates solidly with 1/2" nominal straight it wont fit with BSPP! like most plumbing, you may need teflon tape, etc.
If you cant get the solenoid to fit your NPS threads, please email support@adafruit and reference this post
