From the error message it looks like you don't have the Adafruit_tmp006 library installed correctly or at all.

Re: TMP006 IR Temperature Project

Got the sketch loaded and it works great

Ok so lets say the IR sensor was pointed at an object, would the sensors performance be affected by hot or cold air passing between the object and sensor ?

Probably not as much as you would think. Someone said they could tell if the sky was clear or cloudy by taking an IR reading of the open sky so I tried it. If the sky is cloudy the temperature will be somewhere over 20F and if it is clear the temp was -11F.

How challenging would it be to have a display read out like the serial monitor ?
What hardware would be needed and would it work, I realize this is just a thermometer but it could be applied to other devices ?

Any of the LCD displays should work. If you get one with a backpack you won't need other hardware except wire.

http://www.adafruit.com/products/292 and a display that works with this.
Also how difficult is the coding ?
How good are your coding skills? I can do it, perhaps you can too.
