Power boost 500 data lines

Post by cyborg5 »

I'm interested in your power boost 500 http://www.adafruit.com/products/1944

Does this device pass through the data lines? For example if I plug in Arduino into it could I still upload sketches and use the serial monitor? If so this is exactly what I've been looking for for a long time. Another example you show it connected to an iPhone. If I had this charger in line could you still sync the iPhone? By the way I understand it does not come with battery or iPhone cables etc. I'm just concerned about being able to transmit data cleanly through the device.

Sorry, D+ and D- don't pass through.

The only connections to D+ and D- at the output side are for the "I'm an Apple-compatible device" resistors, and those are voltage dividers between VCC and GND.

Is there a reason that you couldn't make a version of that board that did pass through? It seems to me like that would be a great feature. I've been looking for some kind of charger with battery that would pass through the data signals. If I knew enough about those kinds of charging chips I might try to build one myself but sadly I don't.

It sounds like you're looking for a powered hub.

one of these: https://www.adafruit.com/products/961
and one of these: https://www.adafruit.com/products/1566

will give you the combination of data connections and battery power.
