I have 4 of these mini 8x8 LED matrices:

I want to set them up to make a large 16x6 matrix, but I ran in to a problem lining them up. The backpacks are too tall and I can't put one above another without having a gap, I can only line them up side by side. would it be possible to shave off the top of the backpack (where the SCL, SDA, ground, and power connections are) and instead solder the wires directly to the HT16K33 chip? This would reduce the height of the backpack by a centimeter or two and allow me to seamlessly line up the matrices

Re: Lining Up LED 8x8 matrices
You could cut that side off and solder to the copper traces, if you're careful.
