Furrtek sells these nice boards that allow you to use 12 IRLED's in an array. It can be supplied with voltages anywhere from 5-9. You simply give it signal from the signal pins on the micro-controller.

Parts list:

5 2N2222 or equivalent transistors
4 47 ohm resistors
12 Vishay TSAL6100 or TSAL5100

Looks really cool! Waiting for a large paycheck to come in and then I go on a Mouser shopping trip for the LED's to finish these and other projects.

Im going to at somestage get around to hooking up the CCTV illuminator that I got to try to do the same thing. The transistor on it for the dark sensor appeared to be a mosfet that didnt turn on with only a few volts like the tvbgone gave it, and I munted all the rest of the circuit on it when I was pulling off the CDS cell and a few resisors etc. Awaiting motivation to connect a 14.4v drill battery and a TIP120
