TV-B-Gone Sonic Screwdriver (Doctor Who) Mod

Post by PropLord »

Hey guys. I've been using the General area for help but then a friend pointed me to this thread. I have no clue as to how I missed it.

Idea: I want to add my TV-B-Gone v1.2 to my 11th Doctor's Sonic Screwdriver.

Thank God for copy and paste... I'd hate to have to type it all out again, haha. The img link isnt working for some reason so I posted the pics on my Facebook. You shouldnt have a problem viewing them b/c I made it so everyone in the entire world can view these. :D

If you have seen Doctor Who, you may have seen him use his Sonic Screwdriver standing upright. (if not, pretend the Emitter is a Light Saber Blade. You hold a Light Saber like a sword, straight up in the air.)

This is basically the only way I can use the IR LED from the TV-B-Gone, on the very end of the Sonic. I took out the bottom "button" and the empty area will hopefully be the IR LED housing.I have very little room inside my Sonic. I only have room for 1 IR LED (bent outwards). I dont need to reach 150 feet so I will be using the WIDE BEAM LED.

I would really rather not have to use the GREEN LED b/c I would have to drill a whole which would mess up the awesomeness of the Sonic. However, I am thinking about going ahead and doing this, as this is the only way you can tell that it is on.

Here is how much room I have to work with, and what I think are the parts I need. I need to look at the schematic more.

On v1.2, only 3 resistors are used. If I were to use all of the components, it would look exactly like this:

So, to recap: I want to take my Sonic and add the TV-B-Gone. I dont have enough room to fit all 4 IR LEDS. I "have" to use the green LED so I know it is working. There really isnt a way to tap into the Sonic Screwdriver power source so I will use 2 button cell batteries instead (some how)

What components do I HAVE to use?

I wasnt sure if I was going to use the GREEN LED until now and I didn't know where the Capacitors go. Heck, I still dont. So I had made this last night to give me an idea of how it would go together without the board.

It's really messy, but it's going to be messy no matter what... sadly.. :(

purple wire = ground (but didnt want it getting to confusing.)
green = back into the IC (again, didnt use red or black so it didnt get to confusing.)
red= positive
black= negative
