Kit 1.2 done but not working...

by nicolaz on Mon Feb 13, 2012 5:37 pm

Hi there.
I bought the kit 1.2 and just finished it few hours ago. It worked very good (I'm in France) but then after I found the kit really warm. So I putted out the battery and since I tried to use it again it doesn't work anymore, the four transitors and leds warming when it's getting energy from the batteries.

What did I do wrong ?

It could be a short circuit somewhere. Post clear photos of the front and back of the board and we will check it out.

I don't see any obvious shorts on the board. It is possible that the board shorted out against something external and damaged one or more components.

Is there any output from the LEDs when the board is powered?

The green led doesn't shine but I don't know about the others.
Maybe does one component burned ?

Was so happy it worked but sad it doesn't anymore :(

The other LEDs can be seen using a digital camera or webcam. Most of them are sensitive to IR light. But if the green LED does not light, then the processor is probably not running.

One possible cause is that something short circuited in operation and burned out a component. Another possibility is an electrostatic discharge damaged the processor. This is a hazard working with sensitive ICs in the winter months. We do have replacement processors in the store: http://www.adafruit.com/products/75.
