Trouble Programming the tvbgone

Post by josh_ridez »

I'm trying to reprogram the tvbgone version 1.2.I have built it and it works fine.
I'm using Linux Mint 13.I changed the WORLDcodes.c file and ran make.Everything compiled fine.My programmer is the AVR ISP mkII.Heres the command that I'm running from the command line in the linux terminal.

sudo avrdude -c avrispmkII -p ATtiny85 -P usb[0200033885] -U flash:w:tvbgone.hex:i

Thats just the serial number of the programmer.

I'm getting an error message like this

avrdude: stk500v2_command(): command failed
avrdude: stk500v2_program_enable(): bad AVRISPmkII connection status: Target not detected
avrdude: initialization failed, rc=-1
Double check connections and try again, or use -F to override
this check.
avrdude done. Thank you.

I did a bit of googling around. One solution was to download from the repositories uisp which I did and I still got the error message.I have triple checked that the programmer is connected t the header the right way.I don't want to try connecting it the other way just in case because apparently it can damage the AVR.

Would appreciate any help on the matter.
Thanks
JB

Heres the verbose output,I noticed that the Programmer Type is STK500V2 which its not.I thought the -c option was supposed to change this.

Hey it turns out that the programmer was connected the wrong way.I'm confused because I used a multimeter to determine the VCC and ground pins for the header. The programmer has an arrow on the connector indicating which one should be connected to pin one,so it seemed to me which was the obvious orientation.

After running the command again I got this message.

avrdude: Expected signature for ATtiny85 is 1E 93 0B
Double check chip, or use -F to override this check

What does this message mean??I hope I havent destroyed the chip by having the programmer connected around the wrong way.I will test it and also see if it now works on sony projectors.
Thanks

Solved:Lifted Resistor R1 and everything worked fine.Should have read the FAQ's on ladyada's page first.
