TV-B-Gone Functions but will not stop cycling codes
As soon as I insert the batteries my TV-B-Gone starts cycling the codes. I don't have to press the switch. Pressing the switch I believe is resetting the device to start at the beginning but it doesn't stop after the 2 Minute mark. Do you have any idea what part I can check?

If you post clear photos of the front & back of the board we can check the assembly.

Hello, here are a few pictures. I am fairly certain this has something to do with my solder work. This was the first project I soldered since high school .

The soldering looks good for the most part. One leg of C2 looks strange. It doesn't look like there is enough solder there to make a reliable joint.
Also, you have a few solder spatters and a stray wire strand on the positive battery lead. You should clean these up so they don't break loose and cause a short circuit.

I have the same problem. Could it be that the switch is inserted wrong? As soon as I put the batteries in, the Tv-B-Gone starts doing it's thing, and sometimes it will not turn itself until after a few minutes. Im not positive, but I believe that I caught it turning itself on once or twice too.

Adam_tlllls - The switch is symmetrical. There are only 2 ways to insert it and both will work. If you post photos of the front & back of the board we'll check your assembly.

Re: TV-B-Gone Functions but will not stop cycling codes
Here's a pick of the front. Can you tell what the problem. I don't necessarily want to photo the back until I can get some more of that special tape that holds it all together. If it helps at all, I noticed that it turned on before I pushed the button, when I tested it with only the battery pack, R5, ceramic capacitor, switch, led, and micro-controller soldered in. I am fairly confident in my solder work as I have been soldering for a good 8 years before this project. I checked my work to make sure that I did not bridge any connections, and supplied sufficient solder to each connection. Although I have been wrong before.

The top-side solder and component placement all look good.
If you have a multimeter, check the resistance across the reset button (use any two diagonal pairs of pins).

I get 30 ohms when testing one one set of connections and don't get any resistance when testing another.

Can you clarify? Do you measure 0 ohms, or an open circuit?and don't get any resistance when testing another.
Also, if you are measuring diagonally opposite corners, it should be the same for both diagonals. Measure again.

I measured again. I am getting 30 ohms on one set of diagonal connections, and an open circuit on the other. Something may be wrong with the switch maybe?

Something odd there. Remove the switch from the board and do the same measurements on just the pads.

Re: TV-B-Gone Functions but will not stop cycling codes
I hate to hijack a thread, but I'm having the same issue. At first I thought it was because I mistakenly added r2, but I removed it with no change.
I removed the switch, and am measuring an open circuit across both diagonal pairs on the switch. Same goes for the pads.

Photos. Chip was removed before I desoldered the switch. Put the chip back in, issue persists.
