I have royally damaged my green LED and the part of the PCB where it's soldered into place (REV 1.2). I can tell that the IR LEDs are working (but not flashing: always on), so…
Is the green LED necessary for the microcontroller to function normally? Or, is it just an activity indicator? The schematic seems to suggest the latter, but I'm admittedly unsure and want to double-check.

Just an activity light. You don't need it, except to know when the batteries are dead and the TV-B-Gone issn't working.
