having trouble

Post by scottiegfftv »

I put my tv be gone together with out testing it (a bad idea, I now know) as soon as I plug the batteries in it heats up and the ir leds stay on no matter what, but the green one doesn't. I did take my time to put things in the right place and solder it and nothing looks out of place is there a way to test anything without taking it apart and starting over?

What parts are getting hot?
Check the labels on the transistors. Q5 should be different from Q1-Q4.
A clearer shot of the back of the board would be helpful. Try near a window or even outside for better light.

the transistors leds and micro controller get warm to the touch

Q1-4 have a 2222a part number-- Q5 has a 2907a number

Warm is OK. The IR leds draw a lot of current. If you press the button, do you see any interruption in the output of the IR LEDs?

Do the IR leds appear to be flickering at all, or are they just steady-on?

Let's see if we can back up a bit. No need to de-solder everything. Start by removing R1 (that will effectively disconnect all the transistors and IR LEDs) and see if the green LED blinks as it should.

well I'm not sure what changed but I got to playing around and noticed the green led started blinking to pattern and finally stop after about a minute where as before it blinked nonstop until i pressed the button(the walk from my shop to my house is about 5 minutes so around that much blinking until i pulled the batteries the first time) so I reconnected the R1 and it turned off my tv, seems to be working fine now :?: thanks for the help I'll be stopping and doing the test on future kits

Glad you got that working. Still a bit of a mystery why it didn't before.

it is odd, I had searched through before posting and thought maybe I had a short somewhere because that's the only other post I have seen that matches my first problem but I didn't notice anything touching or anything out of place. Then when the R1 was removed I knew the green led was supposed to blink for a little over a minute but when it kept blinking still didn't make since and then it just started working like nothing was wrong to start with :? now it works no problem and has turned every tv off I have pointed it at so far :D
