thanks for that opossum! so on average i get that the led's are on 20% of the time, (i just added up all the ontimes and divided by the total ontime+offtime) and as you point out, they're pulsed, which brings that down to a 10% duty cycle.
is that how it all works? so we can churn 800mA through these buggers no problem! assuming a battery that'll provide that kind of current! I imagine lugging a 12V lead-acid cell around in a backpack, with an IRLED floodlight and a massive electric-chair style switch. *ka-KOW*: down goes a city block!

For a PCB ive seen websites that will make a prototype board for 60 bucks or so. Can you take the board design in the Eagle format and send it to them to make?
Didnt know if this was even possible of having a company print a PCB for a reasonable price.
Just checking to see if that was a option, just taking the board design and getting one made. Has anyone else tried this?

This is how it's done commercially except you would typically send gerber files to the board house instead of Eagle files. Check out www.pcbexpress.com and www.barebonespcb.com.
Both these places will make a double sided, plated through hole, quickturn PCB for a reasonable price. The best part is that you can panelize your design so that you can get many parts out of one panel to reduce your per board cost.
If you are looking for full service boards, www.4pcb.com has a good deal where you can get 2 sided, PTH, silkscreen and soldermask for $33/ea (3 board min). Panelization (step and repeat) is not allowed for that price but for a $50 fee they'll let you step and repeat. THe sq. in per board allowable for the $33/ea price is really good (up to 60 sq in!!)

Get a few TSAL7600 (Mouser # 782-TSAL7600) if wide angle operation is desired.

I think a single 4xAA pack is the best.
The use of two batteries is only necessary if the voltage is something other than 6V, or it can not supply enough current to stay above 4V (4xAAA for example).

I really want to build one of these EHP because I have a neighbor accross the street that always leaves theirs blinds open and watching the big screen at night.
I think that I am right around that 150ish foot mark and cannot get it to go. Im using 3AAA's on the v.2.0 and cant get it.
Hopefully this new design will get it turned off. I want to get one built soon because in the spring time a tree will be blocking my view. Also im not sure if the tree is causing any issues currently but i doubt it.
Just now placing an order on mouser.com to purchase the parts to the EHP. I will let everyone know how it goes.

Very thin cell - should make for a nice thin/concealable device.
Looks like the price dropped since I made my purchase.
If I ever finish my tv-b-gone 360, that will be powered by a small 800mAH 2s pack from my RC heli.
Just for everyone else's info, fully charged lipos are 4.2V/cell.
