Tvbegone kit battery's overheating.

Post by klomp10 »

I got my tvbegone kit a couple of weeks ago and I assembled it in stock form, it worked great. Yesterday I got bored and decided to put it in a cell phone shell. To do this I had to extend the LED and use a different battery holder, when everything was reassembled the battery's get hot enough to burn my hand within about 45sec. The first time it overheated I didn't notice for about 2 minutes and it melted some of the plastic in the battery holder, with the plastic around the spring melted so it popped out. I have tried several different battery holders and different brands of AA's, It also overheats when I removed the micro controller. I do not see any places were it is shorting, but it must be shorting some ware. Any ideas?

er, it sounds like its shorting. you can post a photo to look at but i think if it worked before you put it in the new case and now suddenly it doesnt work, then its something you did while modifying it, right?

Here they are, they are pretty hi res so you can zoom in and see. around the were the battery connects the solder gets messy, because I have been taking battery packs on and off but the leads do not the battery packs on and off.
