Couple of newbie questions

Post by Davevo »

Hi Everyone.

As I stated in my first post I'm a complete newbie to electronics, do have some basic electrical experience and learn pretty quick.

I am building a nicely concealed TV-B-Gone Kit and will be posting it all up when I have finished. I have already built one onto a 3XAA battery holder and installed a switch on it as it kept going off by accident. Have included a pic. This is just temp while the world cup is on to have some fun with.

Anyway, couple of questions please.

I want to solder the chip straight onto the PCB without the 8 pin socket. this is for clearance issues. I have a good HAKKO solder station and it very quickly solders the parts up using lead solder. I think it would prob be ok but would like an expert opinion .

Can I use a brighter green LED what spec LED's can I use?

Thanks.

Dave.

You can solder the chip directly to the board. I would leave it until last to protect it from stray gremlins. You might try reducing the value of the resistor inline with the LED a bit but be aware any of these things were not intended so be careful.
