I have a couple of projects that just don't require the 328. For example, I'm replacing the rx/tx and motor control of an existing RC car. The code easily fits in a 168.
I've got some projects for next Halloween so the other 168s will see temporary use in those - a pumping heart (we found a company that sells gelatin heart molds) and a heart beat monitor.

Well im sure your dentist loves you.
I was thinking about a boarduino but would love it to find someone that sells the a kit but without the chip. Just for my lazyness I guess.
Was just looking for ideas. the hairclips would be really nice. If i used them

Fundamental Logic sells the MaxSerial (an RS-232-based, shield-compatible board that I like because I don't usually use the Arduino as a "PC peripheral"), and (nearly??) every needed part at decent prices. I haven't done the calculations, but you can probably make yourself an "everything-but-the-CPU kit" for less than the cost of a complete kit (though maybe not: their margins have to be so thin you could read an insurance policy through them...).
They're in Canada, so delivery is a few days slower to the US. Also, they have an annoying tendency to run out of stock at inopportune moments. But their low prices may make up for that if you're a fellow cheapskate .
