Thermal Printer Question

I have a HP 82440 Thermal Printer which I would like to interface to a serial output from my micro for hard copy data logging. The printer sends data via an infra-red interface with a HP protocol.

Is it possible to do this and have you successfully done it? If so, would you share you solution?

Any enlightenment will be appreciated!

I do appreciate the reply. Yes I have that document and several others from the HP journals as well, but I'm just not smart enough to develop the code. I was hoping to find someone who might have done so and would share.
