If you are used to the usbtiny programmer and have a new AVRISPMKII don't forget this important part:
You must connect Vcc and GND on the ISP header! You may think "I know my avrispmkii does not supply power, so I will power my chip elsewhere". Not good enough!
I went nuts for almost an hour wondering why I kept getting initialization errors (rc=-1) when everything looked hooked up right. It was trying to tell me, though; red LED means "no target power". Duh!
Hopefully the search engines will pick this up and save others some grief.
