Mini Thermal Receipt Printer - Maximum operating temp

Post by McSalty »

Hi everyone

I am working on a project where I need to implement a simple non-professional printing service, outside.
The project will be placed in a box (ip66 or ip67 rating).
The operating temperatures given on the website are 5°C ~ 50°C.
My question is: Will the printer operate at lower temperatures (just above 0°C). If not, would the heat produces by a Raspberry Pi or Beaglebone Black be enough to keep it warm?
I could place some resistors in the box with a thermostat, but the box is quite small and I would like to keep power consumption as low as possible, so without would be better.

The last thing that I want to happen is the motor blocking, the readablility of the prints are also quite important.

Thanks

The electronics should produce enough heat inside the enclosure to keep it at least a few degrees above ambient temperatures. You are only talking a difference of 5C, so I think you be safe.

Thanks, I will do it this way.
I will place a temperature sensor inside too, just to make sure. If necessary the power can be turned off automatically.

Thanks
