I guess it was a noobie assumption that I could hack together a 20x4 LCD shield with a joystick/5 button controller. Like these popular 2 line ones.

I also wanted to conserver ports on the Arduino for an ethernet shield. So I choose the: Standard HD44780 LCD plus the i2c LCD backpack. And hoped to use the AD0 joystick circuit that uses 5 way switch with a series of resistors and connects to AD0.
I've tried several different libraries/sketches, but can't find one that I can make work. I find plenty that use a standard LCD connection but none that use i2c.
Please point me in the right direction and give me any words of wisdom.
Thanks
20x4 LCD + i2c + AD0 joystick ≠ :-)

Re: 20x4 LCD + i2c + AD0 joystick ≠ :-)
Solved it!!!
I trashed both Arduino .22 and 1.0, removed all the libraries. Fresh installs of programs and Adafruit's LiquidCrystal.
Found a sketch someone was using for the Deuligne, converted to Adafruit's LiquidCrystal and cleaned up a few problem lcd.xxxx lines.
DONE!
