Help with a single solenoid

Post by davefromphilly »

Hi Everyone,

I have what a simple N00b question about controlling a single, small solenoid using my Arduino Uno. I purchased everything from Adafruit, but don't understand enough about schematics to translate it onto my Arduino and breadboard:

I have the Arduino Uno as part of the Start Pack https://www.adafruit.com/products/68 and I have gone through most of the samples just fine. I also have the "Large push/pull solenoid" https://www.adafruit.com/products/413 and would like to get a simple firing of the solenoid via an Arduino sketch and power the solenoid with some type of battery pack.

At the bottom of the solenoid page, there is a link for a simple (to most, I'm sure) schematic PDF to fire the solenoid, http://www.arduino.cc/playground/upload ... driver.pdf, but I'm afraid the EXACT wiring onto the Arduino and breadboard is just over my head, (embarrassing as this is). I am committed to the great work by the Adafruit team, but need a little help :-)

Thanks,
DaveFromPhilly

Ladyada's Arduino Tutorial lesson 3 is a good place to start. It shows how to use a breadboard, and some basic schematic reading as well.
