windows 7 doesnt read gps or mini gps

i did everything text book using usb printer cable red black green and white 5v grnd - + cant get windows o read it unknown device and mini gps doesnt find during scan need help

I can't see how you have it connected. Where do the other ends of the wires go?
Please post a clear photo showing ALL the connections.

what you see is the 4 wires connected to usb cable i cut off the printer end leaving the pc end intact , when plugged i get windows message "device has malfuctioned" and in device manager under the usb tab it reads "unknown device " the uart to uart once installed doesnt show in my device manager under ports as in the instructions the following is the tutorial i used

A plain USB printer cable will not work. That tutorial specifies a USB/Serial cable.

ok i got that a 9 pin serial to a 4 pin usb , im in luck my tower is a dell usff there is a serial port . ok i tried to relate that in earlier posts that i was using a 4 pin usb cable
would this be what i would need?
