LCD Question

Postby bob500000 » Wed Dec 05, 2012 5:39 pm

Hi Guys,

I bought the following https://www.sparkfun.com/products/9052

and am wondering can I change the size of the text to display more text on the restricted screen size.

Cheers

I doubt it. The LCDs have a 16 x 2 array of characters of 8 x 5 pixels. There are spaces between the groups, so even if you could figure out how to drive them, characters crossing boundaries would look bad.

I was thinking about that but looking into the library files on the LiquidCrystal is show the following which could be used,

Not sure where to change it though.

// When the display powers up, it is configured as follows:
//
// 1. Display clear
// 2. Function set:
// DL = 1; 8-bit interface data
// N = 0; 1-line display
// F = 0; 5x8 dot character font
// 3. Display on/off control:
// D = 0; Display off
// C = 0; Cursor off
// B = 0; Blinking off
// 4. Entry mode set:
// I/D = 1; Increment by 1
// S = 0; No shift
//

The other value that might take (according to the library code) is LCD5x10 which allows characters 10 pixels high on some 1 line displays. I don't think it will help you any.

The satandard 16x2 character LCDs have no flexibility for changing font size. For that you would need a graphical LCD: https://www.adafruit.com/index.php?main ... phical+lcd
