The battery is right out of the package. I checked it and it is putting out 9+ volts.
You are right about the resisters. I need to go over the resister values. They should be more like 500ohms or even a bit less

If you are looking for max brightness, calculate the value you need to get 20mA. For basic indicator use, you can typically get by with a lot less than max brightness (and use less juice!). 1K is a reasonable value for many applications.

Well, I swapped out the resistors with 400ohm ones (all I could find for now) and it works great. I think it was a combination of way high resister values and the battery connection not being very tight to Vin and Gnd. I fiddled with the connection and it runs fine.
