I purchased an Arduino Micro from Adafruit and received it last week. I successfully uploaded 3 or 4 sketches to it without problems. Last evening, I uploaded a sketch to it via USB, disconnected the USB cable, applied an external 12V 600mA power supply to the Vin and ground pins on the breadboard adjacent to the Micro, and the unit got very hot. I unplugged the power.
I verified 12V on the power supply and triple checked my connection and polarity to Vin and ground.
After disconnecting the external power supply and reconnecting the USB cable to the Micro and computer, the power light lights and the TX light lights, however the Micro will not take a new sketch. Is it possible this unit had a faulty power regulator?

Re: Arduino Micro
Not very likely. I have never seen one fail like that. Post a photo showing all your breadboard connections. Is it possible this unit had a faulty power regulator?

Re: Arduino Micro
Sure.
Note that when 12 volts is applied to VIN and ground for more than a few seconds, the Micro gets so hot you can smell it.

Re: Arduino Micro
That looks OK. Can you post a photo of the bottom of the Micro. That is where the voltage regulator is.

Re: Arduino Micro
It looks pretty normal. No obvious shorts or anything. Contact [email protected] with a link to this thread for a replacement.
