Fingerprint scanner

Post by lawrencefla »

Hello, I bought the fingerprint scanner from adafruit but I am currently having issues with opening it via the SFG Demo. When I click the open device and select the com port for the arduino board I receive an open device error. After trying a few more times I was finally able to scan a fingerprint 2 times but kept receiving the "Enrollment error scan again" notification after about the 3rd attempt the light on the scanner does not come on again even though I was prompted to place finger on scanner. Please note:
1. I am using windows 8.
2. I have Soldered the wires from the fingerprint scanner to thicker wires to increase connectivity.
3. The Open device error comes on after a few attempts.

How are you powering the scanner? Post a photo showing all your connections.

Can you post the device information displayed by SFG Demo when the device is connected?

I am using adafruit/Adafruit-Fingerprint-Sensor-Library for interfacing with arduino. I am getting an ID in which I have stored the template from the scanner. Is it possible to get a value representing the image taken by the scanner? I am having two finger print scanners and I have to get the same value out for the same finger from both sensors. Is it possible to get?

Here it is. After about ten tries of just keep clicking the Open Device (0) button it finally found the scanner but when prompted to place finger on scanner the light did not come on so I waited about 8minutes and the light to the scanner finally came on and I was able to enroll a fingerprint but had to wait another 8min to scan the other. When I tried to do the process over again another day no matter how many times I clicked the Open Device button I would continuously receive the "Open device, fail" error

If it 'sometimes' works, the baud-rate must be OK. Must be just a flakey sensor. If you contact [email protected] with a link to this thread they can arrange a replacement for you.
