Available pins on Aruino Uno R3 with Adafruit Motor/Stepper/Servo Shield

Post by mrath3 »

Hello,
I am inquiring about the Adafruit Motor/Stepper/Servo Shield for Arduino kit. I was wondering if the Adafruit shield had to be directly mounted to the Arduino and if so which Arduino is it intended to be used with. Is it the Arduino Uno R3? Lastly, does the shield use up all of the inputs. For my project I need to control 3 sets of motors and acquire data via the analog pins and will need to use the 5V power output from the Arduino. I was wondering if the shield permitted use/ access to these slots or not. It was hard to see from the pictures and was not stated in the spec sheet. Thank you for the time and I await your reply.

The motor shield is designed to plug directly into the Arduino and works with all "classic" Arduinos as well as the UNO R3 and the Mega.
Pin usage is detailed in the FAQ: http://learn.adafruit.com/adafruit-motor-shield/faq
There are breakout holes on the shield for connecting to unused pins. Depending on the type of connection you need to make, you may also want to consider stacking the motor shield with a Wing Shield for solderless connections: http://www.adafruit.com/products/196
