Help to get started on a new project (Temp Sensor and LCD)

Post by fireman_pete »

Hi All,

Newbie here. I have a project that I think Arduino would be perfect for! I have a large BBQ Smoker, that uses wood pellets, and has three firepots. These firepots are beneath a large steel heat deflector, and I cannot easily see them to ensure that they are lit. When I start the smoker, the firepots are lite with an electronic hot rod that lights the pellets.

I would like to mount a High-Temp type k thermocouple near each fire pot, then use Arduino to monitor the temp, and display it on a LCD display. I will have a total of three sensors, and plan to use three of the MAX31850K boards.

I want to try an order all of the parts I need at the same time. I would appreciate any information from the group on what is needed to complete the project, and any tips you might have.

My plan is to have the display, boards, etc mounted in a plastic case.

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Pete

Thanks for the information, I appreciate it.

I will be placing an order for the items below shortly. Being a newbie, how hard will it be to program something like this work?

Also, are there any enclosures available that are pre-cut for the LCD disply?

Thanks!

I haven't found one that worked for me, but I made a pattern with paper and then marked my case and abused my soldering iron on it slowly. ABS case from Local source it was very easy just a bit smelly>
