hi picdude77!

what are the boards called?

can you post a link to them?

do you use any of the open-source software for the arduino or bootloader?

did you base your design specifically on the arduino project, if so how?

the answer to your questions all depends on what you actually made, what you called it and how it works and what it's based on!

thanks,
adafruit

since you're new to the forums here and the kit biz forums, we really like to assist others who are doing open-source hardware kits and our customers - which one (or both?) are you!? we'd love to hear more about your product, is it an open source hardware kit? assembled product? what is it named?
picdude777 wrote:On the name side of things, I've mulled over the idea of "...duino" name variants, but I'm not sure how aggressive the Arduino attorneys are in trying to halt derivative names. (whether not the infringement claim is valid is irrelevant, it can cost tens of thousands to defend a trademark application, as SparkFun found out...) I'm assuming if you follow standard practices and use the proper "®" symbol and the normal disclaimers, you're pretty much free and clear to use the name in a supporting context. IE: "Arduino® compatible controller board"
why would you consider an arduino-like name? what is the value you see in that?

you said you only buy knock off arduinos and don't see the value in the arduino, then why do you want to co-opt it?

we cannot give legal advice for something like naming your product, you should contact the arduino team or a legal expert. the arduino site has a lot of specific information on their site about how to use the name, you may want to review it. they also have forums, our kit biz forum is not specifically for arduino trademark and legal questions for naming, etc - but the arduino forums definitely are.

Complete nonsense to be sure, but it's a very prevalent opinion in these circles...
Thanks.
what is the link to this thread where someone was "forced" to supply design files?

what do you mean by "complete nonsense" ? usually people who use open-source hardware release the project under the same license. you've stated before you do not believe in that and said you knowingly cloned arduinos using their trademarked name.

please do not should say things like that about "these circles" unless you are willing to supply links and specifics. also, please keep the tone polite here, this is the second warning we're giving you :(

thanks,
adafruit
