ALL GONE **** Rare Parts Kit for the TR909 Clone '9090' ****

Post by Gaetano »

I have been thinking about getting a 'Rare' Parts kit together for the 9090, since I'm thinking about making one (or two), here is a link to the clone kit:

http://uk.groups.yahoo.com/group/introspectiv/

Also check out subatomicglue's worklog here:

http://www.subatomicglue.com/9090l0g/

Is anyone interested in this, and what parts would they like to be able to get, or what parts are they are having difficulty with? Just post here or PM me.

ALL GONE SEE MY LAST POST!

hi Gaetano,
nice idea... mainboards are still available? I've checked the introspective website, but did'nt find the ability to order mainboards for the 9090 which are the most important parts imho.

cheers

You are right of course, and I'm waiting to hear back on this from Trevor, and he's very busy I'm told. I'm just seeing if there is any interest so far, as I would need to buy quite a few of the rarer parts. Just like before though, I would only offer them when I had them in my hands though.

I strongly support this! I have the boards, but I haven't gotten very many of the "rare" parts... I just picked up the passives, so anyone who can get the proper parts together has my vote! :D

Just as an update,

I'm still hacking away at this. It seems that I can only get one part from one person in a reasonable quantity so far (i.e., enough to do at least 10 kits), and the postage is a killer, they want International Courier Door to Door only (Doh!). I think because of the GFC, they want it all their way - Risk[ing] free (play this last line with a 909(0) and a Rasta accent).

I don't want it to end up like the 2SC1583's on eBay currently for ~$25 + ~ $8 postage  , 2SC2291 for ~$15  . If anyone wants 3 x 2SC1583's + 1 x 2SC2291 for $98 you have a deal

So far I have:

1SS133(T-77) Rohm Diodes.
2SA798-(G) Mitsubishi Dual PNP Common Emmitter Transistor
2SA1115-(F) PNP Transistors.
2SC2603-(F) NPN Transistors.
2SC2878-(A) Toshiba NPN High Reverse Current Gain Transistors.
2SD1469-(R) Rohm Medium Power NPN Transistors.

getting there.......

Maybe someone can get some panels done?

Forgive the blasphemy, but I am not so interested in an exact clone so much as a nice rack mounted drum machine I can build.

Are these "rare" parts required to build the 9090 or can one use more available parts?

If I need the kit to build the 9090, I'm happy to buy a kit or two.

You don't absolutely need these, but it would sound closer to a real TR909, just like you don't absolutely need to use the original parts in a TB303 / x0xb0x, but it sounds more like a real TB303. I am mainly getting these as I prefer the real thing, and note also that some of the substitutes are becoming difficult to find as well. However I am still waiting until I get a few more parts before I offer these anyway, as I need to test all of the parts first. I am trying to make it easier to assemble a full parts kit, as the other parts (i.e., the resistors and capacitors) are very generic so you should be able to get them at your local parts store. The only other bits, i.e., the programmed controller and roms, come with the PCB's from Trevor. I am also thinking of having panels made, if I can get a good price I will mention it here also.

I am considering offering these as a kit: Can I get some feedback. Some of these you can get, but they seem to always be out of stock, others like the 4006 are getting very hard to find:

1SS133(T-77) Rohm Diodes.
2SA798-(G) Mitsubishi Dual PNP Common Emmitter Transistor
2SA1115-(F) PNP Transistors.
2SC2603-(F) NPN Transistors.
2SC2878-(A) Toshiba NPN High Reverse Current Gain Transistors.
2SD1469-(R) Rohm Medium Power NPN Transistors.
CA3080E OTA
CD4006 18 Bit Static Shift Register
CD4011U Quad 2-Input NAND - UBP (UNBUFFERED)
CD4013 Dual D-type Flip Flop
CD4040 12 State Binary Counter
CD4051 8 Bit Data Selector (Sgle 8-ch. Multi/Demultiplexer)
CD4069U Hex Inverters - UBP (UNBUFFERED)
CD4070 Quad Exclusive OR
CD4520 Dual Binary Counter
CD40174 HEX D Flip Flop
LM339N Comparator - Quad (Low Power Low offset)

I'll probably only make up 10 or so of these, so if you are interested, PM me or post it here and I'll contact you when I have tested the parts.

So far, the kit is the following (ALL PARTS ARE NEW and through hole types):

95 x 1SS133(T-77) Rohm Diodes.
04 x 2SA798-(G) Mitsubishi Dual PNP Common Emmitter Transistors.
22 x 2SA1115-(F) PNP Transistors.
57 x 2SC2603-(F) NPN Transistors.
02 x 2SC2878-(A) Toshiba NPN High Reverse Current Gain Transistors.
02 x 2SD1469-(R) Rohm Medium Power NPN Transistors.
01 x CA3080E OTA
02 x CD4006 18 Bit Static Shift Register
03 x CD4011U Quad 2-Input NAND - (U => UNBUFFERED)
03 x CD4013 Dual D-type Flip Flop
03 x CD4040 12 State Binary Counter
02 x CD4051 8 Bit Data Selector (Sgle 8-ch. Multi/Demultiplexer)
05 x CD4069U Hex Inverters - (U => UNBUFFERED)
01 x CD4070 Quad Exclusive OR
02 x CD4520 Dual Binary Counter
06 x CD40174 HEX D Flip Flop
01 x LM339N Comparator - Quad (Low Power Low offset)

I'm still waiting on a couple of bits, then I need to test them, someone can double check the numbers to ensure that I have not made a mistake.

Looks like it will be US $95 including postage for this kit (rounded down), I still have some parts to check and I have to verify the weight for postage.

There is also someone on the Yahoo board offering free 4006's to anyone who needs them, so if you only having problems finding these, then this is the cheaper option :)
