I just put in more options for the 'Rare' Parts Kits. They have all new components the only differences are the 2SC1583's and the 2SC2291's are used in Options 1B, 2B, 3 and 4. There is nothing wrong with used components as long as they are tested and work correctly and within specification.

I have torture tested some (including soldering and unsoldering them 5 times), then run them for a month to make sure that they are like new, and to be honest, there is no difference, between the new and used ones except the leads are a bit shorter.

Notes:

The differences between the five options below which all work as well, and have been tested on the forums (you only need one option for each x0xb0x):

Option 1A and Option 1B: The same transistors as an original TB303 Bassline. The only difference is that 1B has a used and tested 2SC2291 and 2SC1583's.

Option 2A and Option 2B: The same transistors as a later model TB303 Bassline. The only difference is that 2B has a used and tested 2SC2291 and 2SC1583's.

Option 3: The same transistors as the original x0xb0x. With a used and tested 2SC2291 and 2SC1583's.

Option 4: A mixture of the same transistors as the later model TB303 Bassline and the original x0xb0x. With a used and tested 2SC2291 and 2SC1583's.

Please see the first post.
I need to clear up an issue with the used 2SC1583's and used 2SC2291's, as I was asked a couple of times and assume that I was no clear:

All of the used 2SC1583's and 2SC2291's I send are tested.

I randomly selected and torture tested some of the used 2SC1583's and 2SC2291's to ensure that the used ones were robust.

BUT, you will not get a torture tested one, only a fully tested one.

I initially tested some like this to ensure that they performed exactly the same as the new ones when soldered into a circuit, and they do.

To test all of them:

1. I first check that they function properly, i.e, that they are not faulty, with a proper transistor tester.

2.I then check the Hfe, to make sure they are withing specification as stated on the datasheets.

3. I then test them in an actual circuit. For example every 2SC1583 is tested in a standalone TB303 VCO, that I constructed for the purpose.

I can therefore easily substitute a new 2SC1583 for example, and compare the waveforms, which are identical.

4. I can therefore state that there is absolutely no difference between the used ones and the new ones, once they are in a circuit.

Therefore, if a x0xb0x was construced with used ones, you would not be able to tell!

be careful with chips/electronics so close to the magnet in the turntable platter!
yikes!
:)
I recived these chips today. very high quality service.

I had them near a crt monitor at work for a little while (maybe 1 & 1/2h hours total) between 1 1/2 and 2 1/2 feet away before realsing that that was maybe risky.

will i have done any damage does anyone know?

cheers.

Gaetano wrote:No, they would be fine,

I put them in the antistatic (pink) bags to stop them tribocharging, i.e., building up a charge due to friction on the way. And then in EM sheilded (silver) bags, so they are not affected by EM fields etc. Just leave them in the bags until they are being used, and if you don't have an anti-static mat, touch your grounded computer case before you handle them. They are not particularly sensitive to static or EM fields, but I pack them like this just in case, so there is no chance of them being wrecked by static. But watch in particular, the 74HCXXXX chips for the x0xb0x, they can be very sensitive to static.
thanks for the info. I've been curious about how much these parts might be affected by static and now I know and which things in particular to watch for.

How about if I took the parts out of the EM shielded bag to inspect them in this proximity to a crt monitor?
