Mating connector for PF35T-48L4 stepper motor?

Post by lindes »

Hi all,

Does anyone know where I might get the mating connector to the 6-pin connector that came with my "PF35T-48L4" stepper motor from the "Motor party add-on pack for Arduino"[1]?

I've tried to identify the exact name of the connector, and find a match for it, and so far have failed. I did find what looks to be the same gender:

http://www.sparkfun.com/commerce/produc ... ts_id=8732

so it's presumably made by JST.

And I also found this, which tells me that perhaps it's an XHR?:

http://www.atbatt.com/product/21796.asp

But I'm having a heck of a time trying to find a plug[2] of this type on digikey, mouser, or via google[3]. I find some similar items, but haven't yet found the actual deal, I don't think.

I couldn't even find it on JST's site (after at *least* a half hour looking at pictures, indexes, etc.):

http://www.jst.com/

Even going through the entire alphabet (and numbers) at http://www.jst.com/home8.html (scroll down and click "Proceed" for index), I only found this, which looks *close* but not *quite* right (I don't think):

http://www.jst-mfg.com/product/detail_e.php?series=250

So....

Anyone have any recommendations for where else to search, or what else to search for?

Any help would be much appreciated. (I much prefer to attach a connector to an existing connector for connection to a circuit, rather than cutting off the existing connector and going direct -- which I'll do in some cases, but usually only when I'm in a final installation type of phase, rather than a tinkering phase. It just seems a shame to cut off a perfectly good connector that I could use to attach to multiple things, you know? Or maybe that's just me. Anyway... I'm hoping to not have to clip this thing off the motor.)

Thanks in advance for any help!

Cheers,

- lindes

[2] or is it a jack? I want the ones with pins, which makes me think it'd be "male", but I could also believe it might be called "female" because it would presumably hold the other connector. Whichever it's called, it's the one other than pictured in the sparkfun link, above.

[3] e.g. http://www.google.com/search?q=jst+xhr+connector

Which led me to find, e.g., this:

http://www.bphobbies.com/view.asp?id=B3 ... d=B1198426

But, despite the drawings seeming to show a 6-pin connector, and the photo looking close to correct, the photo seems to actually be showing 7 pins. Ugh!

I usually cut them off and use the screw terminals on the stepper controller. But if you need a more convenient disconnect and can't find the mating connector, you might want to just replace the whole thing with a matched M/F pair.

I believe it's a six-pin JST PH-series connector. Digikey (or a pair of dikes) is your friend here.

Biggest headache with the JST PH series is that the male sockets are only available in PCB mount format, and I haven't found a source (aside from Sparkfun, who is out of stock) for a clone version with a wire-mount male socket.

You can use 24ga wire to go from the plug to a breadboard. 22ga is too thick to fit, but I was able to get 24ga wire in there.

Some candidate housings for the 6-pin JST PH-series socket (2mm pin spacing):

and

And as it turns out, those connectors from Sparkfun aren't PH compatible--they're on 0.1" spacing, not 2mm.

I finally found a solution to this question, because I wanted to use the connector that comes with this stepper motor. I bought a "pitch changer" from here:
http://www.proto-advantage.com/store/pr ... id=3800024. I think it was $1.39. Anyway, I was able to create a small box into which I plugged into this pitch changer on one side, and then a regular 1" plug on the other side. I hope this helps!
