Arduino Motor-shield Not working

Post by tothemoonandback »

Hello, I just bought an Motor-shield kit. I soldered it together using the instructions. I also downloaded all the proper software and libraries. I plugged my USB port into the Duemilanove and this LEGO motor into the motor port 2. I stacked the motor shield on top on the Duemilanove. However, I think the green LED should be lighting up. After, I uploaded the proper example file via the USB cable. The green light not the motor turned on. :?: Please help me!
Do i need to add some sort of other battery pack to the shield for the motor?
I'm very sorry if this is very basic as i am a novice in this field.

Post large clear photos, links to the motors you are using and what you are running it with. (Operating system, version of Arduino, etc) and also tell us if you made changes to the code, or have anything else hooked up. What are you using for power?

The green LED is a power indicator. It has nothing to do with the software. If that is intermittant, you most likely have soldering problems.

Post photos as franklin97355 mentioned. The other information would be helpful as well.

Looks like a few cold solder joints there. Re-work anything that looks dull, or hasn't flowed well onto both the pin and the pad. A hot, clean iron willl help here.

Trim all the leads close to the board, and when you are done, you can clean off the excess flux with some 90% isopropyl alcohol and an old toothbrush.

The green LED indicates power to the motors. It looks like you don't have the PWR jumper installed. If you want to power the motors from the Arduino supoply, you need to have this jumper installed.

Agree with arduwino, go over your connections. It looks like you need more heat in your iron, and less solder. Your joints should not be mounded up but should flow down to the pad.
