Hello,
I soldered an Arduino data logging shields a month ago. It worked fine for a while and recorded some temp from my fridge.
Then it stopped working, and the SD card now shows :
Free RAM: 1110
error: card.init failed!
SD error: 1,0
This 1 Gb SD card is not recognized any more by any computer or camera I have. (It cannot mount so impossible to format it).
The shields works fine with another SD Card.
I have 2 questions
My SD card seems to be dead, is there a way to recover it ?
What are the things to do or to avoid to keep the SD Card alive ?
Thanks.
JL.
Dead SD card ?

Re: Dead SD card ?
we've never heard of the SD card getting damaged by an SD shield. have you tried reformatting it?

Re: Dead SD card ?
Hello,
Thanks for your feed-back, if you have never heard of such damages and there is no particular precaution to take, then it might be particular to my case. I feared I had wrongly handled the card by removing it while being written to or something of that kind.
I have to admit that there were some water drops around the shields in my fridge maybe some condensation fell on the shields and short-circuited something.
The shields still works though which is the most important !
I have been unable to reformat it because it is not 'recognized' by my computer or camera.
I will see if some suggestion to revive it is posted here

sorry to hear that, yes removing the card during write is not suggested. we'll keep track of these kinds of errors in case it happens again

Re: Dead SD card ?
I debug SdFat by hot inserting and removing about twenty cards in a sketch that does a number of tests then asks for the next card. I have not had any problems so the Data Logging shield is not too likely to damage cards when you remove/insert cards with power on.
But never say never.
