GPS shield: how-to run the SIRF-Demo

Post by audiodroid »

Brief background story:

We are having trouble with our GPS shield/module. For further detail have a look here:
http://forums.adafruit.com/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=19346

This post has a bit different topic :
To a) reset the module, and/or b) test the most basic functionality of the gps-module, we tried to run the SIRF-demo as suggested in several posts.
But we are not sure if we ran the SIRF-demo correctly.

We downloaded the software and had a look in this document:
http://www.falcom.de/support/documentation/sirf/

However there is no (precise) instructions on how to run the SIRF-demo with an arduino setup.
In our case: PC <=> USB-cable <=> arduino <=> gps shield <=> gps module

E.g. which driver to use in that case. Is the arduino driver sufficient or does it have to be uninstalled? Or how can it be replaced by the driver, that is suggested in the SIRF-doc?

Does anybody know of a link on the web giving these details? Or ...hmmm...;-)... can someone maybe kindly "push" adafruit to provide such a manual/tutorial?
I think, that would help us big time. Right now we are stuck. :-/

Cheers

"Push" doesn't sound very kind :)

The modules we sell work directly with no modification so there is no reason for us to do a tutorial. Your issues come from purchasing a module from a different distributor. You should contact that distributor and ask them for a tutorial on how to get your module working, they'll love some kind pushing!

thanks,
