GPS Shield and Lassen GPS

Hi there,

Had fun soldering up the GPS Shield tonight and was looking forward to "plugging in" my brand new Lassen IQ GPS. But I seem to missing either a cable or header. Is there help posted somewhere on how to mate up these two? I found an SMD header at Sparkfun: http://www.sparkfun.com/products/170 Will that work on your Shield?

And there's mention of a battery required. Can you point me to that?

The sheild is designed to support a variety of GPS modules. They are all a little different, so you will need to check the spec sheet for your module to get the pinouts. The wiring page outlines the signals that need to be connected.

The backup battery is for modules that don't have one built in. The part numbers are at the bottom of the parts-list page: http://www.ladyada.net/make/gpsshield/parts.html

Thanks for pointing out what I should have found on my own.

Follow-on question. This works fine using a Duemilanove, but I can't seem to get it to work with a Mega 2560. Am I missing something?

what specifically is not working anymore

After making sure I had the right board selected in the IDE, I uploaded the GPS Parser sketch to the Mega.

When the program begins, I simply get the "GPS Parser" title in the serial monitor and then nothing else. I've used the Mega for other things, so I am pretty sure it works.

When I take the GPS shield and repeat with the Duemilanove it works fine.

In both cases the LED on the GPS chip blinks. Wish I could of more help in describing this issue.

the mega+GPS shield isnt tested, the SD library and NSS may not even work on the mega...you can check this forum to see if other people have gotten it to work, probably a lot of little things that need to be changed
