Motor Shield and L293NE w/steppers

Post by PG_Illhaus »

Can an L293NE be swapped in for the L293D on the motor shield when driving stepper motors? It seems there are some diodes that would have to be added to the circuit that are only internal to the L293D, but they could easily be added externally to the screw down terminals.

Because it is rated for higher output current, and I happen to have two of them on hand.

you could try the SN755410 or whatever its called, instead, some people think that the diodes inside are sufficient (search the forums here for a few old threads). probably worth a try!
