Wave Shield "3.3v supply & bypass" Required?

Post by sun-tracker »

Hello,

I may be foolish in doing this, but I've wired up the wave shield on a breadboard (my soldering iron busted and I didn't want to wait for a new one before trying to get this thing working!), and using the Eagle Cad schematic files, I notice the section on using the 3.3v IC1 and capacitors 1,2,3,4,5, and 7. Why is this necessary? Can I not drive the SD Card reader off of the 3.3v line already on the Arduino?

In other words, will I be OK in not utilizing the IC1 and corresponding capacitors? Thanks!

The 3.3v pin on the Ardiuno is primarily intended as a voltage reference and does not have the necessary current to drive the SD card.

Thanks for the reply! I'll go ahead and build the supply/bypass.
