Logger shield drawing too much current

Post by eclipsh »

I've got two logger shields I'm having trouble with. One never worked (may have been soldered wrong). It won't read an SD Card at all. The other was working fine until I accidentally ran 12v back through the ground pin on my arduino and cooked it. At first the logger shield still worked but right now it is drawing too much current and pulling the 5v regulator down to 3v and the 3.3v down to 2v. Is the culprit likely to be the 74125 chip on either/both?

It is likely one of the ICs that got toasted. If one of them is getting obviously warm, then it is the most likley suspect. Otherwise,
start by removing the RTC (because it is socketed, it is easiest).

Thanks, the 7412 was getting hot on one. Given the cost of the chip versus shipping and handling I'll just order two of each and see if the boards will start working.
