I'm A Noob

Post by Goran »

I just finished putting the wave shield together and I get the following error:

Wave test!
Free RAM: 784
Using partition 1, type is FAT12
Error: Can't open root dir!

I've re-formated the SD card, I've tried to get it to read a folder but nothing seems to get past the error.
Any help offered would be great!

I followed the build instructions here:
http://www.ladyada.net/make/waveshield/solder.html

I'm using an Arduino uno that also just came today

Thanks

You need to format it as Fat16. Follow the instructions here: http://www.ladyada.net/make/waveshield/formatcard.htm

Okay, I figured out part of it.
The first SD card I was using was a 16MB canon card that came with my camera.
I tried three different formatting programs and none of them would format it to FAT16.

I tried a no-name 512MB card and a 1GB SanDisk and both worked the first time.
My guess is that the Canon card somehow prevented the correct formatting from occurring (I'm guessing here, can't really explain it) but since I have other cards, I'll go with one of them instead.

I have to admit that despite the wav format the sound quality isn't that bad. Should work well for the Christmas light controller I'm building.

Thanks for the assist.
