Data Logging Shield - Serial Writes to SD Card?

I notice in your sample code that you are using Serial.println to access the SD card when using the Data Logging Shield. Is there still another UART available on the Arduino when you use the Data Logging Shield? I'm trying to make a device that will be able to RECEIVE SERIAL DATA (no send required) and store that data as files on an SD card. I'd like to have a hardware UART rather than trying to implement one in software. Thanks! Ed.

Serial.println is not writing to the SD card. It is echoing the data to the serial port for diagnostic purposes. In the following example code, dataFile.println is used to write to the file.
