Arduino Uno + ethernet shield Power Problems

Post by trevor16 »

I have been having trouble with my arduino ethernet shield i got from adafruit. When I plugged in the power, the LED power light goes on at about 1/2 brightness and then dims off. The chip that says 509Z gets also extremly hot and I was told when I posted this question to the arduino forums at http://arduino.cc/forum/index.php/topic,85931.0.html that this chip was a fuse that got hot and blocked current from flowing. I followed the instructions given to me on the arduino forums but it did not help as i can see no visible damage to either boards.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! :)

Can you post some clear photos of the board? It seems strange that it would work for a while and then develop signs of a short.

No obvious shorts on either board. Does the 509Z chip on the UNO only get warm when the Ethernet shield is attached?

Yes, it does not get warm without the shield attached. Thanks for all your help.

I do see some stray solder spatters on the underside. I suppose one of them could have migrated to somewhere where it caused a short. Contact [email protected] for a replacement and include a link to this thread.
