Hi! I'm working on a project for a student sub-group of Engineers Without Borders at the University of Illinois (UIUC) called Electrical Engineers Without Borders. We're planning to build a flying device and have the goal of making the hardware and software open source as it is intended to help projects at our UIUC chapter of EWB as well as be used and shared by others once it's done.
We would like to combine all of the different components such as a gyroscope and your GPS shield kit into one custom PCB, but we were unsure as to the licensing of the GPS shield, even though the webpage at the Open Hardware page on LadyAda. Ideally we would use a similar layout and the exact same parts list as the GPS shield kit but include additional sensors and design the entire unit as an Arduino Mega shield.
What is the licensing of the GPS shield kit, if there is licensing for it? Are there copyrights or trademarks involved in the design that we should be aware of?

Re: GPS Shield - License and Copyright
sounds like an awesome project, when it's all done please let us know so we can write about it!brearto2 wrote:What is the licensing of the GPS shield kit, if there is licensing for it? Are there copyrights or trademarks involved in the design that we should be aware of?
for licensing it's attribution/share-alike. so just credit us and also post your files up under the same license somewhere. for trademarks, don't use "adafruit" or our logo, etc of course. that's it!
thanks for letting us know about this, we donated our design prize money to engineers without borders from when we won some $ for the tweet-a-watt project!
cheers,
adafruit support, phil
